What: Alumni on the Move Breakfast: Celebrating 10 Years of Success YO! Baltimore provides comprehensive services for out-of-school youth, ages 16 to 22, who live in Baltimore City. This event celebrates 10 years of service with: 7,500 youth and young adults have been part of a positive community experience offering job training, academic support, life skills, cultural enrichment and a safe environment in which to grow and feel a strong sense of belonging 3,200 out-of-school youth became employed within one year of enrolling into the program 1,100 youth earned a high school diploma while participating in YO! When: Thursday, October 14, 2010, 8:30 a.m. Where: YO! Baltimore’s Westside Center, 1510 W. Lafayette Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21218 Background: YO! Baltimore was created to address the challenges disconnect youth face on a daily basis in Baltimore City and currently boasts a ten-year track record. Launched in 2000 through a grant award from the federal Department of Labor, YO! Baltimore has been able to demonstrate the effectiveness of utilizing a comprehensive package of youth development strategies to impact the lives of disconnected youth. In a report entitled Changing Minds Changing Lives (see www.yobaltimore.org), YO! Baltimore documents its capacity to reduce recidivism, while increasing educational attainment and wages of participants. YO! enrollees showed a third fewer arrests and convictions than a comparable group and participants overall entering the labor force earned wages at a rate of 44% higher than those in the peer group.
